Welcome!

Welcome to our new blog and to a new adventure for our family! My husband Derek and I are embarking on what we feel will be an amazing experience for us and for our community! We have decided to open a new animal shelter in our area. We live in southern Missouri, in a town where shelter services for animals is lacking. That's not to say that we don't have shelters in our area, but sadly, they are small and over crowded due to a tremendous amount of puppies who are dumped as a result of puppy mills as well as people who feel helpless because they don't have anywhere to bring their beloved pets when they need to let them go.

Our rescue is a no-kill shelter providing a spay/neuter program as well as educational programs for children and new pet owners. Derek will be getting certified as a dog trainer and will provide services, aside from our shelter and rescue services, to our community. He will also provide training for the dogs that we have up for adoption to ensure they are well trained for their new owners!

We will be implementing an educational program for new pet owners as well as children and offer field trips for schools and day cares to our facility. We wish to educate young people about the importance of taking proper care of our pets as well as spaying and neutering them to keep the pet population under control. We will also be implementing a program in which we visit nursing homes and (if possible) hospitals with some of our most well-behaved shelter animals. We feel that this will benefit the animals by allowing them to socialize with many people and, even more so, be a benefit to those who are elderly and/or sick as we all know that simply petting a dog is therapeutic and can lower blood pressure and help de-stress.
